Glenn’s Prentkowski, LaVille’s Zach Gurtner advance to regionals
John Glenn’s Tyler Prentkowski carded a 4-over-par 74, and LaVille’s Zach Gurtner finished two strokes back with a 76 at Erskine Municipal as both golfers earned individual regional berths at the South Bend Riley Sectional Friday.
Both Prentkowski and Gurtner advance to the LaPorte Regional next Friday at Beechwood, scheduled to start at 8 a.m. EDT.
Penn won the team championship with a score of 309 at, meanwhile, and LaPorte and Marian finished second and third, respectively, to advance to the regional round of the tournament next week.
Glenn carded a 340, just one stroke ahead of Northern State Conference foe LaVille for sixth place in the team standings as both finished out their seasons.
The Falcons were led by Prentkowski, followed by Christian Jaske’s 85, Michael Schmeltz’s 86, and Dustin Annis’ 95.
For the Lancers, Cam Gurtner and Zach Hostetler both carded 82s, while Blake Berger shot a 99.

Girls track
Pfeiffer finishes 7th at state high jump finals
Bremen senior Jenna Pfeiffer cleared 5’04” in the high jump to close out her high school career with a seventh-place finish at the Girls Track and Field State Finals at the Robert C. Haugh Complex at Indiana University in Bloomington Friday.
Pfeiffer cleared the same height last year in her first trip to the finals but finished six places higher this year in a two-way tie for seventh to finish out her high school career on the podium.
Culver Girls Academy’s Leah Heckaman placed 12th in the shot put with a throw of 39’0.25” and tied for 15th in the discus with a best toss of 121’04” after earning regional championships in both events at the Warsaw Regional last week. It was the CGA sophomore’s second trip to the state finals in the discus and first in the shot put.
Plymouth’s 3200-meter relay team of Meagan Fisher, Libbie Read, Maggie Morrow and Allie Wright placed 11th in their event with a 9:33.71 following a regional-championship result last week, and Wright was 21st with a time of 1:00.91 in the 400-meter dash at Friday’s state finals.
