Post 27 finishes 3rd at Terre Haute tourney
Plymouth Post 27 dimed Bristol Post 243 in five innings, 17-3 Sunday after splitting a doubleheader with Lafayette Post 11 and Evansville Post 265 to finish third at the Terre Haute Amercian Legion Tournament.
Post 27 took advantage of 11 walks and five errors and collected 10 hits en route to the victory Sunday.
Brody Andrews was 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and 4 RBIs, and James Hackworth finished 3-for-4 with a double, four runs, two stolen bases and 2 RBIs. Eric Knepper and Tanner Andrews also doubled for the Diamond Spyders.
Sean Liedtky earned the win on the mound lasting through three innings before fellow John Glenn product Tyler Niespodziany replaced him in the fourth. Tanner Andrews chased Niespodziany in the fifth and closed out the game.
Post 27 scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a 9-8 win over Lafayette in the nightcap Saturday.
Wally Dickman took the pitching win relieving Sam Russell in the fifth.
Nick Latham was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs in the win as Plymouth out-hit Post 11 9-6 to bounce back from an earlier heartbreaker against Evansville.
An unearned run in the third and a ground ball that hopped over the shortstop in the bottom of the fifth spoiled Post 27’s bid for the victory in the loss to Post 265.
Sean Knepper was 1-for-3 with an RBI in the close decision. Niespodziany struck out eight in the loss.
Plymouth closed out the Terre Haute Tournament at 3-2 and moved to 6-2 overall on the season.
The Diamond Spyders will play the Ohio River Bandits today at Parkview Stadium before heading to Chesterton against Valparaiso Post 94 Wednesday, then returning home to Bill Nixon Field Thursday at 7 p.m. versus Logansport Post 418/60.
