Pilgrims win season-opener
Hayden Skirvin knocked in three runs, and Plymouth used a four-run sixth to beat South Central 7-3 in the Pilgrims’ season-opener on the road in Union Mills Tuesday.
Jordan Scheetz got the win on the mound, giving up five hits.
Plymouth returns to action at home tonight against St. Joe.

Glenn nips Washington
John Glenn saved the best for last, plating two runs in the top of the seventh and holding off Washington for a narrow 5-4 victory on the road Tuesday.
Michael Holderad got the win on the mound relieving Kyle Liedtky in the sixth, and Justin Gierlowski and David Jaworski both doubled for the Falcons in the season-opening win.

Softball
Errors cost LaVille in loss to Zebras
Rochester put up four runs in the top of the first and rode the momentum from a fast start to a 12-5 victory over host LaVille Tuesday.
Autumn Slough and Lynae Hostrawser each doubled for the Lady Lancers, who put up nine hits to Rochester’s 10, but racked up seven errors in the loss.

Girls track
Lady Pilgrims earn split at opener
While Plymouth’s boys track team started its season with a split decision, the Lady Pilgrims opened with the same result on the road at Mishawaka Tuesday, falling short of the hosts’ 101 points, but beating LaPorte 45-18.
Cassie Quissell won the pole vault for Plymouth with a 6’06” clearance, while the Pilgrims’ 3200 relay team of Allie Wright, Megan Fisher, Abby Patrick and Maggie Morrow recorded a winning time of 10:13.09.
Wright also took second in the 200, while Fisher was second in the 800, and Libby Read placed second in the 1600 run at the opener.

Men’s college tennis
Area trio powers Bethel tennis to win
Bremen grad Joe Rallo, Plymouth product Caleb Hadden and LaVille alum Trenton Stout all chipped in wins as Bethel College’s men’s tennis team registered a 6-0 victory on the road at Calumet College Tuesday.
Rallo downed his opponent in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 7-6(3), 7-5, while Hadden combined with partner Stephen Ward for an 8-6 win at 1 doubles, and Stout partnered with Tim Long for a dominant 8-2 win at 2 doubles.
Bethel (5-10) will return to action next Tuesday, April 10 when the team travels to Defiance College (Ohio) for a 4 p.m. match.
