Girls basketball
OD earns championship berth at Hanover Central
Class A No. 4 Oregon-Davis beat Whiting and the host Lady Wildcats at the Hanover Central Invitational Wednesday.
OD beat Whiting 68-59 in the morning game before topping Hanover Central 73-47 in the semifinal Wednesday night, running its win streak to nine straight. Complete results from the games were unavailable at press deadline.
The Lady Bobcats will face Wheeler — which beat Knox 46-42 and Griffith 38-35 — in the championship tonight at 8:30 p.m.

Women’s college basketball
Saint Mary’s wins
Otterbein Classic opener
Four different members of the Saint Mary’s basketball team scored at least 12 points as the Belles defeated Case Western 66-48 in the first game of the 2011 Otterbein Smokey Ballenger Classic on Wednesday.
Plymouth graduate Jessica Centa finished with 12 points along with fellow seniors Patsy Mahoney and Maggie Ronan, while Kelley Murphy led all players with 23 points.
The Belles (4-7) will face Bluffton in day two action at the Smokey Ballenger Classic with tip-off slated for 1 p.m. at Otterbein.

Plymouth opens
gymnastics season
Plymouth’s gymnastics team opened its season at the Elkhart Central Invitational Tuesday, placing second 3.2 points behind the host Blue Blazers with 97.8 points.
Cassie Quissle finished first in both the vault and balance beam, while finishing second in the all-around and tying for third in both the uneven bars and floor exercise to lead the Lady Pilgrims.
Plymouth will compete next at the Valparaiso Pairs Invitational Jan. 7 at 12 p.m.
