Starr, Calumet earn 1st win
The Purdue University Calumet women’s basketball team opened up Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with an 80-51 victory over Trinity Christian on Wednesday night.
Purdue Calumet found its range in the opening minutes of the game, knocking down six trifectas in the first 11 minutes to take a 28-14 lead on Plymouth alum Alex Starr’s fourth trey of the night. After a TCC timeout, the Black and Gold would continue to pour it on with a 13-2 run in the next three minutes to take a commanding 41-16 advantage.
PUC shot 40.6 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 49-28 halftime lead, after holding the Trolls to just 30 percent shooting in the period.
Starr finished with 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range.
The Peregrines are now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Purdue Calumet will be back in action this Saturday when it hosts CCAC heavyweight Cardinal Stritch. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Fitness and Recreation Center.
