Lady Chargers finish regular season
In their final regular season match of the year, the Ancilla College volleyball team fell to NJCAA No. 3 Grand Rapids Community College 27-25, 25-7, 25-15.
In the first game, the Lady Chargers put a scare into a team that only lost two games in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association’s Western Conference all season. Ancilla led for the first part of the game before the visiting Raiders took the lead at 5-4 and stretched their lead to as much as five at 19-14. The Lady Chargers battled back, taking the lead back at 25-24 behind five straight points the longest run of the game. But unfortunately for Ancilla, the Raiders prevailed by scoring three straight points to end the game at 27-25.
Grand Rapids dominated the second game, winning 25-7. In game three Ancilla found itself down 13-11 midway through the game before the Raiders scored twelve of the last sixteen points of the match, winning 25-15.
Hayley Mavrick led Ancilla with five kills, while Kelly Duke picked up four and led the team in digs with 11.Kristen Trudell assisted on 10 of Ancilla’s 18 kills in the match.
Ancilla finishes the regular season at 19-14, their best finish since 2007.
The Lady Chargers are off until Nov. 2, when they travel to Grand Rapids for the NJCAA Region XII, District F Tournament, where they will face off against Sinclair Community College (29-4) in the first round at 4 p.m.
