Residents getting new trashcans

May 9, 2013

BREMEN — Residents will receive new trash containers in the coming weeks, after the Bremen Town Council renewed its contract with the town’s waste hauler.
Residents won’t be able to use other trashcans since Allied Waste Services is moving to a completely automated collection system.
The automated collection system will use an ‘arm’ that extends from the garbage truck to pick up the trash containers.
The trashcans will be the same size as the recycling bins residents currently use. Both bins are 96-gallon totes.
Residents can expect to receive the new trash containers in the coming weeks, according to Rich Martin, Bremen’s director of operations.
Collection days for both trash and recycling will remain the same.
The Bremen Town Council approved the three-year contract renewal with Allied Waste at its April 8 meeting
Town council member Heath Thornton said the contract renewal will “save the town a lot of money ... the rates are very reasonable.”
If residents need another trashcan, it is possible for a household to have more than one bin, an Allied Waste representative said.
