Renz, Kinney earn trio of IHSTeCA honors

June 24, 2011

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth No. 2 doubles player Lindsay Renz and No. 1 singles player Erin Kinney each earned a trio of post-season honors, while several other area players were also singled out for distinctions by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association (IHSTeCA).
Renz and Amy Siefer of Bremen were both named Academic All State for the 2011 season, while Kinney and teammate Chelsea Thoden were named Honorable Mention Academic All State along with Bremen’s Kelsey Stichter.
Renz and Kinney were also named All District 1 for the season along with teammates Shannon Elliott and Kelly Hoeffler and Culver Girls Academy No. 1 Ionna Aguilar. All five players were given All State Honorable Mention honors in addition to their All District distinctions.
Renz and Elliott closed out their high school careers with a season record of 20-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Kinney finished her senior season with a No. 1 singles record of 9-14, and No. 2 singles player Hoeffler finished up her junior year with a record of 15-8.
Coaches nominate seniors for Academic All-State under the following criteria: Seniors must play in at least 50 percent of their team’s varsity matches; they must have at least a score of 1100 on the 1600 SAT, 1650 on the 2400 SAT or 24 on the ACT and at least a 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
An index has been established based on previous years’ results. All girls who meet or exceed the index are chosen for Academic All-State. The SAT/ACT score accounts for 60 percent of the final score, and the GPA counts for 40 percent of the ratio.
All State nominees were selected by a panel of raters in the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association on June 11. All District teams were selected on June 1 at five sites throughout the state.
