Police investigate death of child

A 2.5 year old child was taken to the emergency room at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth with severe injuries on Friday afternoon about 2:30 p.m. The child died on Saturday evening around 5:30 from the injuries received.
The child was treated and then airlifted to Fort Wayne for further treatment.
The Plymouth Police Department began an investigation at the hospital. They then proceeded to the Economy Inn on North Michigan Street. At 6:55 Saturday evening police officers arrested 23 year old Shane Weedling for neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury and possession of marijuana.
It was reported that Weedling had a relationship with the mother of the child. He was not the father of the child.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
