The Marshall County Coroner and the Indiana State Police are investigating the death of a Culver man while an inmate at the Marshall County Correctional Facility in Plymouth.
44-year-old Kerry A. Pinder of Culver died suddenly Sunday morning while awaiting release from the facility. Marshall County coroner Bill Cleavenger says neither violence nor foul play is suspected. An autopsy by Dr. Joseph Prahlow, a Board Certified Forensic Pathologist, was expected to be conducted Monday in Mishawaka. Pinder had been an inmate at the facility since early Saturday morning.
The coroner’s office was notified at 10:44 Sunday morning by the Marshall County Police Department as were detectives and crime scene technicians of the Indiana State Police.
Both agencies worked throughout the day on various aspects of the incident with the cooperation of Marshall County Sheriff Tom Chamberlin, Captain Dan Butt and Detective Lt.
Cleavenger said that hopefully more information will be obtained from the autopsy relating to the cause of death. In cases of the death of a person in custody, the Indiana State Police and the coroner are the lead investigators.
