Plymouth mom, wife plans welcome home party for local soldiers

Angela Drake (far left), of Plymouth, is leading an effort to organize a “Thank You” party for members of the National Guard 381st MP CO., who will be returning from deployment this spring. Here, she holds a banner that she would like the community to sign to show their support. She is joined by VFW Post 1162 members Pam Larson (middle)and Gwen Crum.

PLYMOUTH — This spring, local soldiers from the Plymouth National Guard 301st MP unit will be coming home from a deployment that began in January 2012.
Angela Drake, wife of Plymouth resident Sergeant Scott Drake, is heading up an effort to throw a “thank you” party for the soldiers in March.
“We don’t know exactly when they are coming home, but they will all be home by the time we have the party,” said Drake.
Since Drake is a busy mom with her two sons Colton, 2, and Kamdon, 5 months, she is enlisting help.
The first of many planning meetings for the event will be held September 16 at 3 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Plymouth. Anyone is welcome to attend.
“We are looking for a lot of ideas, whatever the community comes up with,” said Drake. “We are looking for donations of money, time, and just ideas. If we have the great community support I’ve seen from Plymouth before, we can do this.”
She continued, “We have some ideas but two heads are better than one…we are hoping to have as much community support as possible so we can thank all the soldiers. My husband is overseas and I have two kids under 2 years old, so I can’t do it all myself!” she added, laughing.
Drake is also circulating a banner that she would like people to sign. The banner was at the Blueberry Festival over Labor Day weekend, and it will be traveling to different community events over the next few months.
To sign the banner or for more information on how to help with the welcome home party, contact Drake at 574-780-3550.
