Plymouth Mayor Senter earns honor from IACT

January 12, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS – Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter has been honored by the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns.
Senter was awarded Bronze and Silver Certificates in Advanced City Leadership. The program is co-sponsored by the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs Mayors Institute. It involves attending courses over the past two years designed to highlight topics of importance to Indiana's municipal CEO's.
“Its kind of continuing education designed for mayors,” said Senter of the courses. “It was a very good learning experience. There was a seminar on economic development held by the various development corporations around the state. There was a very good course on emergency management, even on social media. Really all sorts of aspects of the things I deal with every day.”
The Mayors Institute is a quarterly series that began in November 2008. Participants acquire practical tools for meeting real-life challenges as IU SPEA faculty, IACT staff, fellow mayors and guest speakers lead the group through advanced problem-solving exercises. IACT and the executive education program at IU SPEA are proud to work with mayors from all around the state for the betterment of Indiana’s cities.
Senter has also been named by IACT to chair the Education Committee for 2011. The purpose of this committee is to address the continuing education needs of Indiana’s local government officials.
“We'll be coming up with the speakers and courses for the coming year,” he said. “The environment is 'Mayors only' without any of the distractions of some of our other meetings.”
The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) is a coalition of municipal officials who seek to improve the quality of life in Indiana through effective government, and is a member of the National League of Cities. Founded in 1891, IACT is one of the oldest state municipal organizations in the country, with 470 cities and towns as members. IACT advocates for municipalities as the official voice of municipal government in Indiana, and promotes good government through education, training and leadership.
