BREMEN — As the 44th Annual IHSAA Boys State Tennis Tournament gets under way around the state Wednesday, Plymouth is the heavy favorite at the Bremen Sectional.
With an unbroken string of 16 straight sectional championships it would be easy to take a 17th consecutive title as a foregone conclusion.
But that’s not what the Pilgrims have in mind as they open play Thursday against John Glenn.
“Obviously we always go into a match believing we have a chance to win,” said Pilgrims head coach Michael Delp. “I’m sure people are going to compare scores and things like that, but we’ve been doing this long enough to know that matches are not played on paper or anything like that. Glenn came over here and played in our league this summer, and I got to see a lot of their talent, and they do have a nice team this year without getting a chance to play them.
“I know they have some talent there and are definitely very capable, so we will have our focus on them on Thursday night.”
Bremen tournament play opens with the hosts taking on LaVille Wednesday night, and Triton will take on the winner of that match Thursday when Plymouth takes on the Falcons.
