PLYMOUTH — Visiting Clay battled back in the third set, but Plymouth’s squad clamped down on Senior Night to finish off the Colonials in the minimum of games, 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 Tuesday.
After leading all the way through, the Pilgrims battled through a total of five ties during the final game at The Rock, putting away Clay with a decisive 11-5 run.
“Our serving got a little tougher and we got some service errors on them, and that made the difference that last game,” said Plymouth head coach Walt Pickerell.
“Against better teams you’ve got to have consistency,” said Clay coach Carl Greulich. “You work hard to get a side out and then suddenly, we get the serve, make one serve and miss the next. It takes all the heart out of the team.”
