Pilgrims enjoy turnaround vs. Tippy Valley

December 8, 2010

PLYMOUTH — What a difference a day makes. Or in the case of the Plymouth Pilgrims three days.
A tough night at Rochester on Friday turned into a great night at home on Tuesday as Plymouth looked like a different team taking a 63-35 win over Tippecanoe Valley.
Plymouth turned the ball over just six times on the night in taking the win, a marked difference from Friday.
“That’s the difference between the last two games,” said Plymouth head coach Kevin Stuckmeyer. “I think we had 17 turnovers against Rochester. I think Rochester sensed that. We were on our heels. Tonight guys began to understand their roles a lot better, started getting to the places on the floor they need to and knowing how they fit in the offense a lot better.”
Certainly true as the Pilgrims seemed confident — even masterful — on the offensive end, especially in the second half.
Tied at halftime, the Pilgrims came out hitting 58 percent of their shots from the field in the third quarter and 65 percent in the second half scoring 22 points in the third frame and opening up a commanding 15 point lead at the end of the quarter.
“We made some changes tonight that I think helped us,” said Stuckmeyer. “We started Joe Knapp who I think is probably a little more natural cutter. We had Houston coming off screens tonight looking to attack first and I think that helped.”
