PHS volleyball pink match set for Tuesday

October 8, 2012

The Plymouth High School varsity volleyball team sits in the shape of a ribbon. They are gearing up for the Ounce of Prevention Breast Cancer Pink Volleyball game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at PHS.

PLYMOUTH — Those wishing to support the local breast cancer awareness group Ounce of Prevention need to make plans to be at Plymouth High School’s varsity gym Tuesday night.
Not only will the Plymouth varsity volleyball team be donning all pink to show their support, but they are also playing some really good volleyball right now.
The match with Northern Lakes Conference foe Concord starts at 5:30 p.m. and the cost of admission for adults is $5.
“We just feel that working together as a team, to be involved in a really good cause would be a great opportunity,” said Plymouth coach Doug West. “This is a way we can help people in a small way financially with cancer care.”
Proceeds from Tuesday night’s match go to Ounce of Prevention and those funds stay local.
West talked about how it was important for a team to be a team “outside of the realm of athletics.”
One of the biggest supporters on the team for Tuesday night’s event was Amber Redinger. Redinger lost a family friend in April to cancer.
Redinger and her mom Kelly are friends with Jennfier Houin and Jessica Oliver who started Ounce of Prevention. That connection combined with the loss of a friend, led to Tuesday night’s match.
The team will look to raise money for a great cause while also trying to win its 10th match in a row.
They are 17-12 on the season and 4-2 in the NLC.
