PLYMOUTH — Patt Houghton, 65, Plymouth, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at 3:41 a.m., at home.
Patt was born on May 12, 1948, in Plymouth, to Donald and Helen (Pesch) Elkins. Patt and David Houghton were married on April 20, 1974, at Saint Michael Catholic Church, in Plymouth. She graduated from Plymouth High School in the class of 1966, and in 1973 she graduated from Saint Francis College, in Fort Wayne, receiving her bachelor’s degree. Patt was a Camp Fire Leader and shared that time with many young girls, including her own daughters. Pat and David were the owners of Derf Jewelers from 1974 to 1988. She was on the Plymouth EMS, first as a volunteer in 1979, and then full time in 1986, until she retired in 2002. She was the first woman EMT, in Plymouth, and she and David were the first husband and wife EMT team, in Plymouth. Patt had been a primary EMS instructor since 1985. She was a member of the Beta Delta Chapter of Tri Kappa, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, and Saint Michael Catholic Church, all in Plymouth. 
Patt is survived by her husband David Houghton; their daughters, Diahann (Andy) Balkema of Argos, and Dana (Chad) Jernigan of Rochester; their son, Donald (Cory) Houghton of Plymouth; six grandchildren; her sisters, Cyndi (Jim) Hansen of Fort Wayne, Barbara (Jeff) Clawson of Hobart, and Kathy (Randy) Hostetler of Plymouth; and her brother Andy (Carol) Elkins of Oregon. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Don “Buck” and Helen Elkins and her father and mother-in-law, Don and Madge Houghton.
