Panthers edged by Culver Academies
CULVER — The North-Wood Panthers outgained Culver Academies by almost 100 total yards but three big plays by the Eagles, including an 87-yard TD return on the opening kickoff proved to be the difference in a 27-20 loss that dropped the Panthers to 0-2 on the year. Freshman Tanner Cleveland rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown while his older brother Blake tallied 68 yards and a score to lead NorthWood. Joel Tinney had a pair of scores while Haynes Barnes passed for a TD and rushed for another for the winners.
The JV game was a completely different story as the Panthers dominated from the outset in a 60-8 beatdown of the JV Eagles. Sophomore Dominic Miranda piled up an incredible 271 yards rushing and scored three times on just 15 carries, while classmate Nick Skwarcan added two rushing TDs and fellow sophomore Trent Sellers ran for a score and threw for another to Chad Herschberger. Connor Bunch also had a rushing touchdown and Derek Weldy blocked a punt and returned it for yet another Panther score in the rout.
