HAMLET — Oregon-Davis announced Dean Foster as its new head boys basketball coach for the upcoming 2013-14 season on Tuesday.
Foster comes to Oregon-Davis with an abundance of experience after head coaching at Elkhart Central, Bremen, Penn, Richmond and Jennings County high schools with his most recent stint at Jennings County in 2009-10. While at Penn, Foster guided the Kingsmen to a 23-3 campaign and the state finals in 2001. He was head coach of Bremen from 1974 to 1987, during which time he recorded a coaching record of 119-158 with his best finish there coming in 1977-78 when he led the Lions to the Plymouth Sectional championship and an 18-6 finish.
Foster is OD’s fourth boys head coaching hire in the past seven seasons and third in the past four years. He takes over for Matt Crawford, who finished 8-33 over two seasons for a program trying to regain its former luster following a Class A state championship under Travis Hannah — now head coach at John Glenn — in 2007 and a 23-2 North Judson Sectional championship season under the single class system in 1988. Crawford will take the reigns at Kouts next year.
With the addition of Coach Foster, the Oregon-Davis varsity basketball coaches will have over 720 combined wins. Girls coach Terry Minix has 290 wins to his credit, while Foster boasts over 430 wins.
