Joshua Markin, 25, of South Bend's black Durango became submerged at the Lawrence Lake access site on Olive Trail Friday morning. Markin said he was planning on fowl hunting at the lake and was parked on the ramp access. He said he returned to the truck and it began to move forward. He told officers he couldn’t remember if the truck was in reverse, drive, neutral or park. As the truck neared the water, Markin escaped through the sunroof. When the vehicle was pulled from the lake, it was in park. Markin had removed the keys and left them in his coat inside the truck, before jumping out to wade to the shore.
Once Carnegie Towing arrived, Bobby Cooper with the Marshall County Dive Team got in the water to hook up the SUV to be towed out.
