Knox city leaf pickup has ended 
The City of Knox Street Department would like to announce that the fall leaf program has now ended. Any leaves remaining by the curb will not be picked up in order for the street department to equip their trucks for the snow removal season. Residents who have leaves may take them to the compost site at any time.

Santa Claus is coming to town
NORTH JUDSON - Santa Claus is coming to North Judson Friday Night, Dec. 2 to help ring in the Holiday Season at the Norwayne Park tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Santa will come to the park by way of a small parade starting at the intersection of Lane Street and Sycamore Avenue, going down Lane to Main and turning right and taking Main to the entrance to Norwayne Park. The parade will start at 5:45 p.m. and any and all are invited to participate in the parade. Santa will go around and up to the Scout Cabin on the hill where a beautiful fire will be burning. Some Christmas Carols will be sung and all the wonderful trees below will be lit. Then all are invited to walk to the old firehouse community center, where the children can visit with Santa and everyone can enjoy hot cocoa and cookies.

Pioneer Land Christmas open house
The 14th annual Pioneer Land Christmas open house will be held at the LaPorte County
Fairgrounds on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4. Open house hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. both days. All buildings will be open: One room school house, American Heritage log cabin, blacksmith shop, Farm Bureau milk cabin, general store, post office, barn museum, quilters cabin and the artisan barn. Homemade cookies and hot cider will be served in the log
cabin. Wagon rides pulled by draft horses will start outside the blacksmith shop (weather permitting). Santa will be in the barn for children to talk to and receive a candy cane. There will be a warm fire going in the fire pit. Plenty of parking near to all the buildings. Everything is free.
Directions; Enter Pioneer Land off Zigler Road at the first entrance into the fairgrounds. Turn right at the community building. Visitors may also enter off Zigler Road at the horse barns (main gate closed for winter). For more information, check the website at

Park entrance permits available
Annual entrance permits for 2012 for Indiana state parks and reservoirs are now available for online purchase.
Order an annual entrance permit, which costs $36 for state residents, by going to The Golden Hoosier Permit is available at the same website to those more than 65 years of age for $18. Each permit allows entrance into any state park or reservoir for one vehicle with Indiana license plates throughout 2012.
Annual entrance permits are also available for purchase at state parks and reservoirs across Indiana.
