New defense lifts LaVille over Triton

October 5, 2010

LAKEVILLE — LaVille’s football team modified its defense this week.
Judging from the results Friday, those changes might just stick.
The Lancers’ defense submitted five turnovers — four fumble recoveries and an interception — along with a safety from defensive tackle Daniel Rensberger and held on for its first Northern State Conference win of the season, a 30-27 victory over the visiting Trojans on Senior Night at Lancer Field.
“The defense stepped up huge,” LaVille head coach Brian Stultz said. “We changed up our defense this week to let them fly around and have fun. And they did fly to the football, and you could see that they were having fun.
“We had our best week of practice this week,” he added. “To have a 1-5 record and have our best week of practice, that says a lot about these kids’ heart. I was just proud of all of our kids.”
