New bakery offers different sweet every day

PLYMOUTH — Punky’s Pantry is a new bakery that opened in downtown Plymouth Monday. Owner Cammy Jones, her husband Randy, and mother-in-law Caro have a simple business model: make a different delicious pastry every day, offer some coffee and tea, and open early enough for downtown employees to swing by before work. They’ve set up shop inside the Plymouth Downtown Commons building, in the hallway next to Furore Photography, Healing Hands Massage, and L&K Serendipity.
“We will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.,” said Cammy, continuing, “It’s not a sit-down restaurant type area, it’s more of a lounge area,” pointing out the three tables and chairs set up in the hallway outside the kitchen.
“I’d like to hit the early morning crowd,” explained Cammy.
The area where the bakery is located has gone through significant changes in the last several months, since Heartland Artists Gallery moved out and several new businesses have moved in. The eventual goal is to have a sort of indoor strip mall, where customers can move between the connected businesses and avoid the elements.
“From day one I liked this little area back here,” said Cammy. “I thought it could be a little kitchen.”
After a few months of hard work, the Argos resident and her family have respectable kitchen and seating area ready for their customers. Besides the pastry of the day, Cammy will also sell her homemade soy wax tarts, and other items such as handmade pillows. Eventually, she would like to also offer a soup of the day. Customers can visit the Punky’s Pantry Facebook page to check the daily menu, or just look at the chalkboard menu that will be posted in their window display. Cammy already knows what she’ll have on her first weekday open Monday, however: “It’s going to be cinnamon rolls,” said Cammy.
Punky’s Pantry is open Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
