Nappanee's sole same-sex marriage

July 3, 2014

NAPPANEE -- Cody Sanford and Ulises Juarez were the first couple living in Nappanee to be legally married by Indiana State Law, and it looks like they might be the only ones for a while.

Sanford and Juarez were married at 10:35 a.m. Thursday just days shy of their three year anniversary.

"It was just me and him and my parents, because we had to get back to work!" Sanford explained.

When the state removed the ban on same-sex marriage on Wednesday, after prohibition since 1997, over 120 couples statewide were married on the first day.
