PLYMOUTH — Morris Dee Roberts, 69, of Plymouth passed away at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He was born Dec. 29, 1941 to Earl “Jack” and Cora (Childers) Roberts in Malden, Mo. As a small child, they moved to Dexter, Mo. and in 1957 the family moved to Lakeville.
Morris married Joan F. Hummel who preceded him in death, June 21, 1968. June 28, 1969, he married Joyce A. (Peterson) Roberts, who survives.
Morris is also survived by his son, Terry (Brenda) Roberts of LaPaz; two grandchildren, April (Andy) Palya and Anthony Roberts; four great-grandchildren, Abigail Atkins, Brendon Palya, Lucas Palya and Kira L. Roberts; sister, Kay (David) Rowe of Dexter, Mo.; and brother, Guy (Carol) Roberts of Dexter, Mo. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Dian (Alton) Hershberger of Union, Mich., Carol Dove of Plymouth, and Gwen (Jim) McGrath of Slidell, La.; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Ellen) Hummel of Walkerton, Rex (Theresa) Hummel of LaPaz, and Wes (Marge) Hummel of Bremen; good friends, Nancy and Charles Rogers and Sandy Neighbors, and the family pet, “Pete.” Two sisters, Mary Ann Roberts and Francis Rupert preceded him in death.
Morris retired Sept. 1, 2001 from Honeywell (Bendix Corp) after 35 years of service. He formerly worked for Taylor’s Grocery Store in Lakeville. He enjoyed antique tractors and small engines, NASCAR and drivers, Mark Martin and Kyle Busch. He loved hunting and fishing and held a lifetime license.
Private graveside services were held at South Union Cemetery, Nappanee. Palmer Funeral Home-Lakeville handled the arrangements.
