Monterey Elementary School will hold an Open House entitled "Celebrate Monterey Elementary" on the students' last day,Thursday, June 2, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The event, says Monterey 6th grade teacher Todd Shaffer, "is just a time for the community to come and take a quick look back at MES. There will be a slideshow and refreshments during this time."
All are invited to the school, which will close its doors at the end of the school day June 2, as Monterey Elementary students prepare to move to Culver Elementary this fall. The change is the result of a controversial vote earlier this month to close to school in order to meet financial needs in the wake of massive budget cuts at the state level.

I think it is so sad to see our school close.monterey will not be the same.I think our school is what was keeping our town going, now montery is just going to be just this little ole town.it is a very nice quiet little town and i love it there.our school will be missed.hopefully they won't just let the building sit there and do nothing.maybe just maybe they could move our library there that would make a great place for kids to go for the summer, take time out and read a book, and maybe even show films there for our kids.that would be nice.A RESIDENT OF MONTEREY,INDIANA.
