GREENWOOD, Ind. — Monagene Barbknecht, age 90, of Village Lane, Greenwood, passed away at 10 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2011, at Greenwood Village, in Greenwood.
Monagene was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Akron, Ohio, to Martin and Vera (Reinhardt) Anderson. She was baptized in Grovertown United Brethern Church, in Grovertown, Ind., in 1921. She graduated from West High School (which was near her home), Plymouth, Ind., in 1938. In 1941 she graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in South Bend, Ind. She then served in the Navy Nurse Corps three years, during WW II at; McIntire Great Lakes; Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Calif.; Guadalcanal, the Solomon Islands; and Noumea, New Caledonia.
Monagene and Edward H. Barbknecht, were united in marriage, Feb. 1, 1947, in Hamlet, Ind. After their marriage, they soon bought a farm, in the Koontz Lake-Grovertown area, and lived there until Edward’s death, June 19, 1990. Monagene made her home, in Plymouth, until 2000, when she moved to Greenwood to be near her family. Monagene was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Plymouth, and was very active in her church. 
Monagene is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Ken) Raasch of Greenwood; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Barbknecht; her granddaughters: Susan (Justin) Davis, Anne (Brian) Hammett, and Beth (Sam) Frank; her great-grandchildren: Vicki Claire Davis, Adelynn Justine Davis, Grace Catherine Hammett, Isaac James Hammett, Tanith Isabel Frank, and Jack Frank; her sisters, Joan Griewank of Plymouth and Ardyce Greski of Palatine, Ill.
Monagene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; their son, Rex Barbknecht (who passed away in December of 2005); her brothers, Ross Anderson and Floyd Anderson.
