Mega Pass sales for fest down from last year

PLYMOUTH — More than 500 local children are ready for unlimited fun Labor Day weekend, as they have in their possession the much-desired Mega Pass.
This pass, sold by the Marshall County Blueberry Festival office, is an all-you-can-ride ticket to every attraction offered by All Star Amusement, the festival’s contracted carnival. Although sales of the pass generally increase around this time of year due to a reduced early bird price, festival board member Larry Faulstich reported at a board meeting Monday that the office has sold 100 fewer passes than the same time last year.
“We can still catch up, but if we don’t it’s probably because people were disappointed they couldn’t use their passes as much last year because of the rain,” Faulstich told board members Monday.
Festival coordinator Sherrie Martin said that 522 Mega Passes had been sold so far, and most of that number was sold over just the previous two days.
Besides purchasing the Mega Pass for $45-50, children can also ride by getting a wristband for one day, which is $15, or purchasing individual tickets for each ride.
The carnival has expanded this year, as the festival office reports that there will be nine additional rides and an added day: the carnival will be open Thursday, Aug. 30 from 5 to 10 p.m. The actual festival does not begin until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.
“The Blueberry board has worked, with the help of Hoosier Old Wheels, to give us more room (and) improve the children’s section as we continue to try and promote a family festival atmosphere at the Blueberry Festival,” said Faulstich via an email Wednesday.
Mega Passes are available at the festival office at 220 N. Center St. in Plymouth, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They will be $45 until Friday, then the price goes up to $50 from Aug. 27 to 31. Mega Passes are not available at the festival.
