Mayor reminds residents of golf cart ordinance

April 4, 2012

KNOX — Knox Mayor Rick Chambers said that with the arrival of warm people are out sight seeing in their golf carts. And there are a few rules that citizens need to remember.
A golf cart is a four-wheel vehicle. They are allowed on city streets only, not on U.S. 35 or S.R. 8. Golf cart operators can cross these highways, but cannot drive on them.
Golf carts are not permitted on sidewalks, this includes walking trails in the park.
ATVs, go carts, lawn mowers, off terrain vehicles, or motorized wheel  chairs are not allowed to be operated on city streets.
Golf carts are only allowed to be operated on city streets during day light hours (sunrise to sunset).
They must display a triangular, slow-moving vehicle sign on a red or amber flashlight.
Driver must hold a valid operator's license.
Driver must show proof of minimum amount of insurance.
Violations of this ordinance can be subject to a fine up to $500.
