BOURBON — Maxine R. Hayes, 91, of the Bourbon and Plymouth area, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 12:23 a.m. in Bremen Health Care Center.
She was born Nov. 27, 1920 at Bourbon to Ralph Hanes and Bessie Marie Ames Hanes. She was a homemaker and had worked and retired from Ristance Wire Co. of Bremen. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, handicrafts, gardening, “going to the spa”, sulky horse racing and spending time with her family.
Maxine was a lifelong resident of the Bourbon area until she moved to her home in River Park at Plymouth where she was close to her siblings. Maxine was also a 1939 graduate of Bourbon High School.
April 14, 1945 she joined in marriage to Thomas J. Hayes Sr. who died April 19, 1974. Maxine is survived by four children; Rita and husband Thomas Madden of Indianapolis, Debra Snooks of Syracuse, Tom and wife Becky Hayes of Bourbon and James Hayes of Indianapolis. Maxine loved her six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was also blessed with four sisters; Helen Neidig and Julia Umbaugh both of Plymouth, Barbara Jean Rogers of Goshen and Carol and husband Ray Hunt of Indianapolis, a brother, Ralph Hanes of New York, N.Y. and brother-in-law Eldon Swank of Bremen.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Snooks and two sisters; Dorothy Swank and Martha Rusher.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bourbon.
