DONALDSON — Mary K. Roelke, 95, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at 10 p.m., at the Catherine Kasper Life Care Center, in Donaldson.
Mary was the daughter of John and Lida (Carpenter) Truax and was born Jan. 29, 1917 in South Bend. She graduated in 1935 from Polk Township School (Tyner High School). Nov. 25, 1937 was the day that Howard W. Ross took Mary to be his wife. They were married in the E.U.B. parsonage in Fulton. Howard passed away Oct. 10, 1974. Mary and Roy L. Roelke were married in May 14, 1976. They lived in Florida during the winter and Diamond Lake, Mich. and South Bend, during the summer. Roy passed away in May 27, 1999. Mary moved to Miller’s Merry Manor Assisted Living, in Plymouth, in March of 2005, then to Catherine Kasper Life Care Center, in January of 2010.
Mary was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She worked at the Farmer’s Market in South Bend, selling fresh eggs. Mary was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, in South Bend.
Mary’s survivors include her daughter, Rosemary (John) Wolff of Walkerton; her son, Norman H. Ross of Springfield, Ill.; four grandchildren, Brenton (Lila) Ross, Natalie (Anthony) Rickman, Debra (Mick) Adams, and Jon (Kathy) Wolff; and six great-grandchildren, Catherine Ross, Anthony Rickman, Gabriella Rickman, Patrick Wolff, Matthew Wolff, and Ryan Adams. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Jon Adams (Aug. 2, 2001); and her sisters, Irene Truaz and Inez Roelke. Also surviving are her stepchildren, John (Nancy) Roelke and Carole (Mickey) Vansco. She was also preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Judy Kindig.
