Mary Louise (Fisher) Rutley
Sept. 10, 1930-Aug. 23, 2012
PLYMOUTH — Mary Rutley, 81, of Silver Spring, Md., suffered a severe stroke Aug. 14, 2012 in Somerset, Pa. while on a tour of the crash site of the plane hijacked on 9/11. She was taken to Pittsburgh where she died Aug. 23, 2012.
Mary was born in Plymouth Sept. 10, 1930 to the late Glenn Fisher and Esther (Eich) Fisher. She graduated from St. Michael School, Lincoln High School, class of 1948, and the International Business College of Fort Wayne. Her working career began in federal employment at the Pentagon. She married the late John Dawson Rutley and together they raised three daughters; Sharon Bouchard of Annapolis, Sue Gillespie of Cincinnati, and Nancy Baugher of Silver Spring, Md., all of whom survive her along with her brother, Thomas Fisher, of Plymouth. She is also survived by grandchildren James Martin, Nicole Shoemake, Nicholaus Bouchard and Matthew Gillespie, also four great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, gallantly coping with the rock hard soil of Maryland — so unlike that of her native Hoosier land. She prided herself with the knowledge of the Latin names of her plants and many others. She also amassed a remarkable collection of Cup Plates used by the colonists and early settlers. After raising her family, she returned to her federal employment, this time with NIOSH — National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health — and remained there until retirement. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John the Evangelist Church, Silver Spring, Md. Aug. 29, 2012, with interment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. This gentle, loving little lady is already greatly missed by her family and many friends.
