ETNA GREEN — Mary Lou Welty, 81, of rural Etna Green, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 10:12 p.m. at Kosciusko Community Hospital.
Mary Lou was born Aug. 3, 1931, at Churubusco to Carlton Forrest Johnson and Olive Pittman Johnson. She has been a resident of Etna Green most all of her life and a graduate of Etna Green High School in 1949. She was a homemaker and a member of Etna Green Church of Christ.
She enjoyed her family, and was a volunteer who helped start the Hospital Auxiliary at Kosciusko Community Hospital. She enjoyed expressing her talent with her paintings, authored two books, was an avid gardener and she loved to cook.
On Sept. 18, 1949 she married Lowell Welty who survives. She will be greatly missed by her husband, her seven children; Pamela (Mrs. Jack) Tharp of Noblesville, Lana (Mrs. Dave) Hilker of California, Lou Augustine of Warsaw, Eve (Mrs. Chris) Scheibe of Mt. Vernon, Wash., Eric and Lisa Welty of Pierceton, Brad and Rhonda Welty of St. Charles, Miss. and Brett and Michelle Welty of Littleton, Colo. She is also blessed with her 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister, Joanne Parker of Warsaw and her three brothers; Dennis and Barbara Johnson of Etna Green, Max Johnson of Tennessee and Glenn Johnson of Etna Green.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sue Ann.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 - 3 p.m. at the Etna Green Church of Christ, 206 W. Broadway St., Etna Green.
Funeral services will follow Friday at 3 p.m. in the church with Pastor Jordan Ickes officiating.
Burial will follow in the Etna Green Cemetery at Etna Green.
The family requests memorial contributions to: a charity of your choice in her memory.
