CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mary I. Miller, 95, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Born in Plymouth, Ind. Jan. 1, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Clyde H. and Jenny (French) Funk. She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1934 and married Lloyd R. “Don” Miller, also from Plymouth, Sept. 7, 1935.
Mary was an excellent student, played violin in the school orchestra and as a teenager, helped as waitress in her parents’ restaurant.
Mary was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Plymouth Eastern Star. She opened Miller’s Dress Shop in Plymouth in 1958 and operated the business until 1977 when Mary and Don retired to South Texas. Don died in 2002 after 67 years of marriage.
Mary has lived in the Charlotte area since 2004.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet M. Tennyson of Luray, Va., and Joyce E. Shipman of Charlotte; and her son, Kent A. (RoseAnne) Miller of South Bend. Also surviving are a sister, Esther E. Smiley of Terre Haute; and a brother, James H. (Betty) Funk of South Bend.
Mary will be buried beside her husband at Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
