Mary E. Davis
July 20, 1923-Dec. 31, 2011
PLYMOUTH — Mary Ellen (Workman) Hite-Haag Davis passed away at Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth, Dec. 31, 2011 at 11 a.m. She was born in Ober, July 20, 1923. May 1, 1940 she married Raymond Hite; they later were divorced after 26 years.
Mary is survived by four children — John Hite and wife Jean of Hurst, Texas; Sherry Hite of Oakland, Calif.; Rick Hite and wife Janice of Plymouth; and Carl Hite of Rochester; daughter-in-law Joyce Moore of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded by her parents, son — Fred Hite, brothers — Grant and Jim Workman.
Mary was a member of the Marshall County Home Extension Club and a member of the Plymouth Missionary Church and First Baptist Church in Argos. She was a district manager for Beeline Fashions for 24 years and was known by many as the “Beeline Lady.” Mary took great pleasure in being outdoors and was an avid gardener. In the summer, her flower beds were a beautiful attraction for passers-by as well as for the many birds the flowers attracted to her yard, which she loved to watch. Mary was well-known for her outstanding rhubarb and asparagus among other fruits and vegetables grown in her garden.
She loved to entertain and people loved to stop by because she always had something delicious cooking. Her greatest pleasure, however, was spending time with her family and loved having them all gathered together.
Friends may visit with the family Tuesday Jan. 3, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, 11525 S.R. 10 W, Argos. Burial will follow at New Oakhill Cemetery in Plymouth.
Electronic condolences may be sent to the family at memorials@earl-grossmanfuneral.com
