KENTON, Ohio — Martha B. “Bernice” Litton, 93, of Kenton, Ohio, formerly of Argos, died at 11 a.m., Feb. 12, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, in Kenton, Ohio. She had been a patient there for seven days following an extended illness.
“Bernice” was born Sept. 26, 1918, in Argos, the daughter of James and Alice Sanderson. She was the younger of the Sandersons’ two daughters. She married Joseph Shivers in 1937; he preceded her in death in 1958. She married Elmer Masterman in 1962; he preceded her in death in 1977. She married Ralph Litton in 1987 and he preceded her in death in 1997.
Martha “Bernice” was a homemaker and she worked as a secretary and payroll clerk for Plymouth Homes in Plymouth. She assisted in management of the Argos Motel for a number of years. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Marshall County Home Economics Club. She most enjoyed being surrounded by her family and having a game of euchre. Living most of her life in Argos, Bernice was an active member of the Argos Wesleyan Church. The last 11 years she lived in Kenton and attended Faith Baptist Church. Bernice was involved in her earlier years with the Chuck Colson Prison Fellowship and the Lay Witness Missions. The church was a cornerstone in her life.
Bernice is survived by one daughter: Sharon (Gene) Good of Kenton, Ohio; and two sons David (Phyllis) Shivers of Argos, and Mike (Judy) Shivers of Findlay, Ohio. She has eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous stepgrand and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, one daughter, Sheila Kelley in 1968 and her sister, Alice Eileen Free Benjamin in 1996.
Visitation for Martha “Bernice” Litton will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at the Argos United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at the church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dewey L. Miller Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos, following the services.
