Man shoots self in front of police
PLYMOUTH — A Plymouth man is dead after shooting himself in the head in the yard of his home on Union Road Monday afternoon. Police were called to the scene at 1:40 p.m. when a resident from the 5,000 block of Union Road called saying her neighbor was at her home, with blood on her, and was saying that her husband had a gun. When officers arrived at the scene John Nemeth came outside the home with a handgun, and while standing in the front yard, shot himself. Walkerton EMS transported him to Memorial Hospital, South Bend where he was pronounced dead.
Nemeth's wife was reportedly not living in the home at the time and divorce proceedings were taking place. Walkerton Police Chief Gary Layer assisted the Marshall County Police Department at the scene of the shooting.
