Man killed in Sunday crash

April 30, 2012

BOURBON — Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger released the name of the driver killed Sunday afternoon in a car/semi accident at US 30 and Cedar Road in Bourbon.
82-year-old Donald E. Ferguson, of Plymouth, was killed instantly late Sunday afternoon after his car was struck from behind by a semi trailer tanker truck on US 30 as Ferguson was making a right hand turn on to Cedar Road.
Cleavenger said that Ferguson's vehicle came to rest in a field on the south east corner of the intersection. Mr. Ferguson died at the scene from blunt force trauma.
Standard alcohol and drug screens are pending on Mr. Ferguson as required by state law.
Cleavenger stated that there were no indications of any drug or alcohol involvement on behalf of Ferguson.
The accident was investigated by the Marshall County Police department, Bourbon Police and Indiana State Police accident reconstruction investigators. The Bourbon Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
Ferguson’s wife was a passenger in the vehicle and was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth by Bourbon EMS and later airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend by MedFlight.
Cleavenger said preliminary toxicology reports should be available by late Tuesday.
