Local fighter striking a blow for MSDC

PLYMOUTH — One local athlete knows the true meaning of Christmas.
Ricky Miller — affectionately known as Mr. Snuggles in area Mixed Martial Arts fighting circles — will take on Nate Wac Saturday night as the feature fight on the card at the South Bend Century Center. Miller will donate all of his proceeds from the bout to the Marshall-Starke Development Center.
It is a charity that hits close to home for Miller.
“My sister (Janna Miller) had cerebral palsy and she needed help most of her life and they were always there,” he said. “I know that they lost a lot of money in their government funding being cut and I think that’s wrong. I wanted to do whatever I could to help.”
Saturday will also start another exciting venture for Miller as a television crew will begin shooting a reality show based on the fighters. The crew will shoot footage for the next 18 months for a show to air likely next fall.
“They told us they will be following us around to get footage about the lives of the fighters and their families, how they train, how they live,” said Miller. “It won’t be just my team, they’ll be shooting all the fighters’ teams.”
Miller is confident that he’ll be getting plenty of air time in the show.
“I’m pretty sure I’m going to stand out — I stand out now,” he said, adding with a chuckle, “Everybody knows Mr. Snuggles.”
Tonight’s fights begin at 6 p.m. at the Century Center with the doors opening at 4 p.m.
