Lions travel to Wheeler in regional clash of unbeatens
BREMEN — With four regionals in five classes set for Friday, only one in the state features a match-up between two undefeated teams as Bremen hits the road for Wheeler in a Class 2A regional championship at 7:30 p.m.
While both teams enter the game without a loss, Bremen is the favorite with a No. 4 Indiana Football Coaches state ranking, while Wheeler remains out of the rankings despite its 12-0 mark. After falling in overtime against No. 1 Rensselaer Central at last year’s regional contest, the Lions are hoping for a different outcome this Friday as they compete for the program’s first regional title since 1997.
“Every team left in the tournament at this point is a good team, and I don’t think it’s a matter of a let-down, I think it’s a matter of these kids accomplishing the goals that they’ve set out to achieve,” said Bremen Head Football Coach Bob Holmes. “After the game Friday night, they were extremely focused on the next game already. I think that’s just a good indication of what they want to try to accomplish and what they feel they can accomplish. We’re just happy to be in this position two years in a row. A lot of teams in this state would love to be in this position, and hopefully we can make the best of it.”
