ARGOS — Lawrence Edwin Beam, 87, of 222 N. First St., Argos, died Sept. 30, 2011 at 2:55 p.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth following a brief illness.
He was born July 6, 1924 in Argos to Edwin and Mabel (Hagenbush) Beam. He lived all of his life in the Argos community. Jan. 23, 1944 in Argos he married Evelyn Pomeroy; she survives.
Lawrence was a general contractor, owning Beam Construction. He was a member of Walnut Church of the Brethren, Argos. He served on the Argos Town Board and Zoning Board, and was a former member of the Plymouth Rotary Club.
He and his wife wintered in Avon Park, Fla. for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and feeding his squirrels and birds.
In addition to his wife, Evelyn Beam of Argos, he is survived by two sons, William Beam of Argos, Timothy Beam and wife Pamela of Maineville, Ohio; daughter, Beverly Barrett of Argos; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Yankauskas and husband Brian, Melanie Dean and husband Mark, Amanda McHugh and husband Michael, Brian Beam, Ben Beam and wife Jamie; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Heflick of Seattle, Wash., and Marie Wilhelm of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Beam; sister, Ethel Beam; and infant son, Larry Beam.
Friends may visit with the family Tuesday Oct. 4, 2011 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 5, 2011 at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Rice of the Walnut Church of the Brethren, Argos officiating.
Burial will be at New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
