LaVille’s Herbster, Shearer given ICGSA softball honors

LAKEVILLE — LaVille softball was given a trio of honors by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association, it was announced Saturday.
Junior pitcher Hanna Herbster was named to the association’s All-District lists, while Lady Lancers coach Scot Shearer was given a pair of honors both as Class 2A District 2 Coach of the Year and as one of three coaches chosen to represent the northern part of the state at the ICGSA North-South All-Star Game.
Herbster was one of 10 selections to the All-District team in the ICGSA’s 2nd district, which covers Elkhart County, St. Joseph County, LaGrange County, Allen County, Blackford County, DeKalb County, Grant County, Howard County, Kosciusko County, Miami County, Noble County, Steuben County, Wabash County, Wells County and Whitley County.
The annual North-South classic will be held June 22 at 11 a.m. at Cherry Tree Softball Complex in Carmel, and Shearer will be joined by Lakeland’s Sherry Severson and Crown Point’s Ginger Britton as coaches of the North team.
LaVille finished up its season at an even 13-13 after advancing to the championship game of the Class 2A Westview Softball Sectional before ultimately falling to Bremen.
