LAKEVILLE — Sophomore forward Katie Berger shot her way to a career-high 16 points Monday night against Bremen, and helped the Lady Lancers reach a milestone in the process.
Berger went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in the first half to help keep LaVille within range as Bremen grabbed a 28-25 halftime lead, while the Lancers’ defense shut down the Lions for a 13-point swing in the third quarter, and LaVille held off their pesky Northern State Conference rivals to claim a 51-47 win over Bremen at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium Monday.
The game represented just the second time the Lancers have been able to pull off consecutive victories this season and an even bigger benchmark for the program, which has never ticked off wins over both Bremen and John Glenn — whom LaVille grabbed a 53-50 overtime win from on the road before the break on Dec. 18 — in a single season.
“I was happy for the girls; they hung in there,” said LaVille head girls basketball coach Kevin McCullough. “To me, that was a team effort. That’s a big win for us, coming off a long layover in a home game.”
