Lady Chargers enjoy first win

January 31, 2012

PLYMOUTH — Ancilla College Lady Chargers worked hard together on Saturday to savor their first win of the season with a 64-50 victory over Glen Oaks Community College in Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference play.
The Chargers (1-16, 1-7 MCCAA Western) had hefty halftime lead of 14 points, leading 29-15. Glen Oaks (4-17, 1-7 MCCAA Western) battled hard against the Chargers in the second half with each team scoring 35 points, but Glen Oaks was never able to pull away, giving the Lady Chargers their first win of the season.
“I’m really proud of the girls and the effort they put forth during this game, said Head Coach Stephanie Beason. “It was the first time in a while that they’ve all played together as a team. They were having fun and that made a big difference. It was a total team effort.”
The Chargers were led by Brittany Cook with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Natasha Ware had 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Katrina Vannoy had 10 points and 10 rebounds. North Judson grad Rebecca Bunkowfst rounded out the effort with 10 points and five assists.
Ancilla will resume conference play on Wednesday when they will be on the road against Muskegon Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EDT
