Knox teen to be remembered at rodeo
GROVERTOWN — An event in Grovertown will have a somber feel among all the cheers and excitement as a fallen Knox teen will be remembered.
Taylor Wagner had a lot of interests. Perhaps chief among them was horses according to Laura Saylor.
Saylor and her family put on the Saylor’s Arena Grovertown Rodeo every September.
They hold another each June which Wagner was a part of.
Wagner was friend’s with Laura’s daughter Shanena Saylor. The two became friends in Starke County 4-H together.
“(Taylor) did a lot of trail riding,” said Laura. “She was all excited about coming in and running this rodeo.”
“She’s been riding since she was basically born,” said Laura Saylor of Wagner.
Wagner died earlier this month in a car wreck.
“It hit the community real hard,” said Laura Saylor. “That girl inspired a lot of kids.”
Saylor said Wagner was a devout Christian who had plans of going to college along with furthering her horse riding.
Saturday, Wagner’s horse will be brought in with either Wagner’s uncle or boyfriend leading the horse.
Wagner was also a singer and one of her songs will be playing during the ceremony.
After that a moment of silence will be recognized for Wagner.
“She changed kids’ lives just by talking to them,” said Laura Saylor.
Saylor’s Arena Grovertown Rodeo is sponsored by Saylor’s End of the Trail Riding Stable and Saylor’s Custom Butchering.
It starts at 2 p.m. CST Saturday and Sunday Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under.
It’s located at the corner of U.S. 30 and CR 1100 in Grovertown.
Laura Saylor said they hope to just break even for the event but that they will also hold a few raffles with the money going to Wagner’s family.
The band Flipside will also perform Saturday night after the rodeo.
There will also be sheep riding for children 80 pounds and under.
