Coaches often say there is no shame in losing to a better team, which NorthWood did in Saturday’s volleyball semi-state semifinal.
No. 11 Bellmont (32-4) used strong serving and its size advantage at the net to end NorthWood’s memorable postseason run with a 25-20, 25-16, 25-12 victory.
“They served and blocked us off the court,” NorthWood coach Hilary Rebber said.
Northwood (28-10) couldn’t find an answer for Bellmont’s 6-foot-2 Madison Schultz, who had three blocks, three block assists and altered many other shots.
“We continued to hit into their middle blocker (Schultz) time and time again,” Rebber said. “You’re not going to get through a wall like that.”
YORKTOWN 3, KNOX 0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-14)

The Lady Redskins could find few significant runs as they took a disappointing 25-14, 25-13, 25-14 loss to Yorktown in the Plymouth Semistate opener Saturday.
While it may not have been the result he wanted, Knox head coach Jake Skelly made no excuses about the match.
“I think, honestly, we ran into a spectacular team,” he said. “We are a spectacular team as well, but today they were better, and they showed it on the court.
