Knox earns 1st win with 41-0 rout of LaVille

September 15, 2012

KNOX — Knox got its first win of the year in dominating fashion by defeating LaVille 41-0 at home Friday night.
Not only did the Redskins shut out the visitors, but they held the Lancer offense to 92 total yards. It was the kind of win that head coach Chris McGowen had been waiting for.
“We finally came out and played the way we are capable of playing,” he said. “It helps when you have everyone who is supposed to be there there. First week all year where we had all 11 starters on offense and all 11 starters on defense.”
Nevin Miller had an efficient night at quarterback going 8 of 14 for 106 yards and two touchdowns — one to Caleb Hieneman in the first quarter and one to newly converted tight end Dylan Short with a 1:53 left in the half.
Michael Sustaita and Jordan Beem both added touchdown runs in the second quarter to put Knox up 28-0 at the half, and the Redskins would never look back. Beem added another score on the ground in the third, while Garrett Majchrzak scored on a 44-yard scamper for the final touchdown of the night.
LaVille coach Mark Reddy was disappointed in his team’s effort as his team fought an uphill battle all game and could never match the physicality displayed by the Redskins.
“I felt like the first time this season that my team quit,” he said. “We got out-hit. We got out-executed. They were a physical team, and we didn’t respond to it. My whole goal every week is for us to get better, even if it does not reflect on the scoreboard. And tonight, we did not get better.”
The Lancers are still looking for their first Northern State Conference win as they play host to Bremen next week. Knox will be hosting the Culver Cavaliers as they look to move to .500 in conference play.
