Knox’s Gierlowski chooses Ancilla
KNOX — Kerstin Gierlowski has accomplished a first for Knox softball.
The Lady Redskins senior recently signed her Letter of Intent to play softball for Ancilla College in the 2012-2013 season, becoming the first player from the program to play at the collegiate level.
Knox head coach Ron Kukula was excited for his left fielder.
“This is our first softball player to go on to play in college,” he said. “I know Kerstin will do her best to help Ancilla.”
“I liked Ancilla because of the small school and small campus,” said Gierlowski. “Everyone was so welcoming. It felt like the right fit for me.”
Gierlowski, in her second year on varsity for the Redskins, plays outfield and has earned a total of four varsity letters during her tenure at Knox. She was named Most Improved on the track team as a freshman and is a part of Health Careers at the high school.
“I’m excited to have Kerstin as a part of the Ancilla softball family,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “This was a great fit for both of us. She is a great young lady who should find an opportunity to step into the outfield and contribute for our team.”
While at Ancilla, Gierlowski will pursue a degree in Health Sciences with the eventual goal of entering the Nursing program.
