PLYMOUTH — Janis G. Martin, 70, of Plymouth passed away at 5:35 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 at home surrounded by her entire family. She was born Aug. 3, 1942 in Plymouth to the late Kenneth and Phyllis (Wilson) Hygema and remained a lifelong resident. On Feb. 13, 1999 in Lakeville she married Billy Martin who survives.
Mrs. Martin is also survived by a daughter, Teri Newton of Plymouth; two sons, Brian (Lori) Ross and Scott Ross both of Plymouth; stepdaughter, Teresa Martin of LaPaz; two stepsons, Dean (Chris) Martin of Oregon and Dale (Anita) Martin of Lakeville; seven grandchildren, Zachary, Amanda, Skyler, Isaac, Rachel, Brandyn and Brittany; seven stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Judy K. Pittman of Plymouth and brother, Kenneth (Vicki) Hygema of Plymouth. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alex Ross; her parents and brother, Dennis Hygema.
Mrs. Martin formerly operated a day care center and formerly worked at Aero Safety in Plymouth. She was a member of Lakeville United Methodist Church, which she loved. She loved all types of racing and enjoyed watching her boys race. Mrs. Martin enjoyed gardening and loved her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at Lakeville United Methodist Church, 610 N. Michigan St., Lakeville. Graveside services and burial will follow at Morris Cemetery, Walkerton. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville and one hour prior to the services Friday at church.
