PLYMOUTH — J. Mardell Gardner, 85, of Plymouth, formerly of Walkerton, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 in Hospice House, South Bend. Mrs. Gardner was born June 30, 1927 in Marshall County to Millard and Vera (Winnell) Ross and lived in Plymouth for four years, coming from Walkerton. On April 17, 1951 in North Liberty she was married to Kenneth Gardner, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Kevin (Cindy) Gardner of Plymouth; two daughters, Karla (Randy) Hostetler of Middlebury and Kerry (Clay) Sasser of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, April Hostetler, Abbie (Caleb) Mast, Julia and Jordyn Sasser and Nathan and Daniel Gardner; three sisters, Twilla Gregg of South Bend, Joan Walsh of Decatur, Ga. and Judy Hopper of Elkhart; one brother, Harold (Shirley) Ross of LaPaz and sister-in-law, Alice Ross of South Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Ross.
Mrs. Gardner was a former secretary at Walkerton Medical Clinic. She was a member of the Koontz Lake Missionary Church, secretary of the church board for many years and was a former Sunday School teacher.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. EST at the Koontz Lake Missionary Church with Rev. Brian Baughman officiating. Burial will be at the Morris Cemetery. Friends may call Monday at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel from 3 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
